Who is responsible
Alligator Design is the trading name of Geert Valère Allegaert, working as a one-person business from the countryside. For anything concerning your personal data, email hello@alligatordesign.net. That address is the only contact channel this site has, and that is deliberate.
What this site does not do
No analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, no social-media buttons, no embedded videos or maps, no fonts loaded from Google or anyone else. Every file this page needs comes from its own server. No third party learns that you were here — not even me, beyond the bare server log described below.
Cookies
Visiting this site sets no cookies. That is why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to, and I would rather spend your attention on the content. WordPress, the content management system (CMS) underneath this website sets cookies only for people who log in to edit the site — and for the moment, that is only me.
What is collected, and why
Server logs. Like every web server, the one hosting this site records each request: your IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser used. These logs exist for security and for keeping the site running, are kept by the hosting company (OVH, data centres in the European Union) for a limited period, and are never used to build a profile of you. Legal basis: the legitimate interest in a secure, working website.
Email. When you write to me, your address and your message stay in my mailbox for as long as we are in contact and for a reasonable time afterwards, so that I can answer follow-up questions. If we end up working together, the correspondence is kept only for the duration of the work. Legal basis: taking steps at your request, before and during an agreement.
Search statistics. To see which searches bring people here, I use the server logs and Google Search Console. Search Console shows search terms and click counts in aggregate; it does not tell who you are, and it places nothing on this website.
Where your data lives
The site and its server logs are hosted by OVH in the European Union. Email for this domain is handled within the EU as well. Nothing is sold, rented or shared with anyone, except where the law requires it.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you can ask what I hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to its use, or ask for a copy. One email is enough; I answer within a month, usually within days. If you believe your data has been mishandled, you can complain to the data protection authority of the EU country where you live.
The websites I build for others
This page is about this website. When I build and look after a website for a client, that site has its own privacy policy, and the client decides what it collects. What I bring to it is the same starting point you see here: no analytics, no plugins, no third-party fonts or scripts, hosting in the European Union — so that a site collects something only when there is a reason for it, not by accident.
Accessibility
Privacy and Accessibility are two sides of the same respect for whoever visits. How this site is built to be usable by everyone, and how to tell me when it isn’t, is on the accessibility page.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. It will not get longer without a reason.
